What is included in the monthly fee at Harmony Homes By the Bay?

Assistance with all activities of daily living (ADLs) including cueing, supervision, minimal assistance, and total assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, ambulation, and transferring. Our nursing team provides medication management/administration as well as coordination for doctor’s appointments and initiation or continuation of therapy, palliative, or hospice services. Our activities department facilitates physically/intellectually/emotionally/spiritually stimulating activities throughout the day and larger events throughout the year including BBQs, fireworks, and holiday parties.

Our kitchen provides nutritious meals and snacks and can accommodate different therapeutic diets including diabetic, cardiac, dysphagia, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other diets as requested. Lastly, our housekeeping team provides weekly laundering and room cleaning services. 

What is your private pay requirements?

We require four years of private pay.

 

Do you take long term care insurance?

Yes, we take long term care insurance.  You should still contact your long term care insurance provider and give them our name to make sure we qualify.  Most long term care insurance providers are different and have different criteria to be met for the individual to be covered.

 

Who is eligible for VA aid and attendance?

Any wartime veteran with 90 days active duty with at least one day during active wartime is eligible for this benefit.  Surviving spouses may also qualify for this benefit if they were married at the time of death. What services are offered by Harmony Homes Assisted Living?

Harmony Homes provides meals, personal care assistance (help with showering, dressing, and personal hygiene), medication reminders/administration, weekly laundering of clothing and linens, trash removal, weekly housekeeping, social and cultural activities, transportation, wellness programs including daily exercise classes, and more!

What is not included in the monthly fee?
  • Personal care items such as toiletries, incontinence, and medical supplies
  • Salon services
  • Medications may be submitted to Medicare and/or supplemental insurance
  • Individual phone service and cable service
  • Transportation to and from medical appointments 
  • Resident outings that require a fee 
Are your staff trained in memory care?

All our staff is given a minimum of six hours of Alzheimer’s and dementia training upon hire. Topics include the different types of dementia, strategies to work with people with dementia, how to recognize and anticipate behaviors, and how to redirect a memory care resident to more stimulating activity. 

Our Assistant Director of Resident Care continues to educate care staff with numerous Alzheimer’s and dementia trainings throughout the year.

   

Do assisted living facilities provide respite care and day program?

Our Harmony Homes By the Bay facility includes respite care, that is, short-term care (30 days or less) that allows the family or other care providers to take a break from caregiving. We also provide an adult day program featuring an 8 hour day, 2 meals, activities, and assistance with activities of daily living. Our schedule is Monday-Friday for adult day program. 

 

Is there a personal emergency response system at Harmony Homes?

Our residents’ health and safety is our primary concern – we have an emergency call system in every resident room and community room with 24 hour oversight of resident care and safety.

Are the rooms studio style?

Yes, all rooms are studio-style, but do not have kitchenettes.  

Do you provide the furniture?

Yes, we provide a bed, bed frame, headboard, bedside table, and either an armoire or dresser depending on the room type. Our residents can bring their own furniture with the exception of a mattress. We encourage families to make the room as home-like as possible with items from their home.

Can you describe the rooms?

We offer both private and semi-private rooms with bathrooms in all rooms. The exterior rooms bordering the Oyster River provide a beautiful water view while the interior rooms provide a view of the spacious and inviting interior courtyard.

The layout of each room differs slightly as well as the sizes with some providing handicap accessible bathrooms. Pull cords to our emergency response system are available in the bathrooms.  The residents also have portable pendants that alert the emergency response system and notify staff via their walkie talkies when someone is requesting assistance.

All rooms have nonskid flooring in each bathroom and beautiful nonporous laminate in the rooms.  

How do I get my parents admitted to an assisted living facility?

First, choose the facility that is right for your parents. Carefully read the contract and resident agreement that lists all the services that will be provided, the fees and the responsibilities of all parties. Make sure you understand what services are provided and all of the fees that may be charged. Ask their physician to complete a physical assessment and submit it to us. 

How do you determine the level of care?

Through an assessment process and the individual’s pre-resident health examination form, done by their primary care.

What type of activities are available?

There are many types of engaging activities throughout the day.  Activities usually start between 10:00am-10:30am and end around 7:30pm-8:00pm.  Each morning is started off with an exercise group such as Tai chi, cardio drumming, chair yoga, music and motion, and many other enriching and rejuvenating exercise classes.

Other activities follow during the day such as jeopardy, bingo, outside and inside walking groups, painting classes, arts and crafts, gardening, trivia, baking group, book club, and discussion groups. We also have weekly outings that include going out to lunch at a local restaurant, movie theaters, picnics at the local parks and oceans, bowling, museums, shopping trips, and sightseeing.    

Do you provide transportation to appointments and will you pick up admissions from the hospital?

Yes, transportation to appointments is available when scheduled in advance. We respectfully request that a family member accompany or meet the resident at the appointment. Transportation fees will apply.
